The other day there was a piece of junk mail advertising on the table. It was one of those three leaf pamphlet ad's for a retail store. Oliver had been looking through it, he brought it over and asked "who wrote this?". He was flipping it over and over, opening it and closing it. I looked at him and wondered what he was talking about. He repeated "who wrote this, Marmee?"
OH... "I don't know" I honestly replied. He was wondering who authored it. As I've blogged previously, because the simple act of reading the name of the author and illustrator of a book, he knows there is a person who writes and a person who illustrates each particular piece of work.
On a similar note:
Oliver has been wondering around the house on occasion repeating whole passages from books we've read. It actually ends up being a little challenge for Daddy and Marmee to see who can figure out which story its from first.
Sometimes it's just a word that jogs his memory. EXAMPLE: When we went to the Library a couple weeks ago I told Oliver we would be going Downtown to the big library. He said "going downtown, have to buy a new face". I was quite baffled by this and it took me the whole drive to figure out it was from the book "Alexander who used to be rich last Sunday" by Judith Viorst.
It's simply amazing to me the things children learn, memorize and understand. I wish I used half as much of my own brain as my two year old does.
