Lessons from my social butterfly

My almost four year old started school this fall and he's LOVING it. Being a social guy he thrives on meeting new people. Of course, I do not. I freaks me out to meet all the other parents at his school. I'm surprised how much my son has actually taught me in his short life to help me overcome my shyness. Top three: just jump into a random conversation with someone {you might make a new friend}, don't worry about what others think and be silly as often as you can.

We're still trying to sort out our new schedule, driving him back and forth to school. It's been a busy couple of weeks and I haven't had much time to think of anything else. SO with nothing really scheduled for today... I'm going to take it easy and relax. I hope you enjoy your day and remember to sprinkle in a little silly, it just might make someone else smile.

Are there lessons your own children taught you? Leave a comment telling me or share one silly thing you did this week, I could use a good smile!

a Make a Mess Monday in video

Oliver's running commentary (if you can't understand him) while painting goes something like this:

"I'm just curious. Lucius is curious too. NO, Lucius is crazy.
But I'm curious and you're curious too."

S'mores and a bonfire

The little Misters and I headed over to Auntie Em and Uncle Jon's house Saturday for a Bonfire. Daddy stayed home sick with a nasty cold. We enjoyed a nice dinner and then it was time for a fire. Auntie Em thought to have all the ingredients for S'mores on hand. Oliver enjoyed his very first S'more, after uncle Jon helped him cook his own marshmallow.

Thank you Auntie Ema and Uncle Jon for inviting us over. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Meanwhile, stories of the Little Brother

While Oliver has entered school life whole heartily, Lucius' little world has completely changed. Lucius has joined us taking Oliver to school and patiently rides along. The first day of school last week little brother and I went to Auntie Em's house. It was so quiet watching Brianna and Lucius play with Uncle Jon's old Train set which is super weird for me, cause I'm used to Oliver's noise.

This week Lucius has decided to start taking morning naps while Oliver is at school. I think it's because he doesn't want to miss any time with big brother in the afternoon! We're actually excited to see Lucius attempt more words without all Oliver's talking. His new word this week is "nnnnnnNO!"

Well that's not the word we were hoping for buddy.

First ever day of school

Well our first baby is off to kindergarten. He's technically at an age to go to preschool but the school we chose to send Oliver to calls it a mixed aged kindergarten. He'll be in a class with other kids 3 1/2  to 6 years of age. He's pretty darn excited!!

I've tried everything I could think of to get Oliver hanging out with other kids, because he's is so VERY social. He thrives on meeting new people, the complete opposite of me. I'd prefer to be home in my own little world and am more than content with the small group of friends I have.  When he continually says things like:

"Mom, MOM!! Stop- I see a kid over there. I think they want to play with me. They could be a new friend!"

We felt that we couldn't hold him back from this another year so with a tiny bit of nervousness we jumped in. It's quite the financial commitment but his first day was definitely proof enough that he was completely and utterly ready. Thursday, He was a little nervous in the morning. Here he is waiting to go on the classes morning walk:

But by the time I arrive in the afternoon, He was the only kid who was disappointed to be going home. We talked about how he was going back the next day and he told me he wanted to go back "ten more days!". Sure buddy you'll be going for the rest of the year... lots and lots more than just ten. When I dropped him off Friday morning he was practically running into school to see his teachers and "new school friends". He was SUPER happy, where most other kids were crying. He told a few kids "don't be sad, it'll be okay". Oliver's such a sweetie- like all people- HE'S ONE OF A KIND!

Well it's official: Two big boy beds

Since it's now illegal to "sell" our front drop side crib, I posted it on a needs board at our church. I wasn't quite sure I was ready to jump Lucius into a real bed not contained by rails. I thought it might be a while before someone wanted to take our crib. But right away I was contacted by a family who had lost everything in a fire this summer. They have an 8 week old baby who could really use a new bed.

Click here to see how the room used to look with the crib.

I do so love to help people, sometimes to a fault but this felt really right. SO this weekend I took the crib apart and moved Lucius under Oliver's loft bed. I hope to make a little platform bed frame eventually.  For now it works out perfectly because there's only an inch or two drop from the mattress to the floor. Of course last night- the first night without the crib Oliver wanted to sleep in his brothers new bed with him. I let them for a while- it was like a big slumber party and no one was sleeping. They were eventually separated for their parents sanity. This is how I found Lucius when I went to bed later that night.

MN State Fair

Too much food and too many fun photos to share with you- so I put them in a slideshow. We were up and out the door to make it to the Fair by 8am Friday morning. A little pronto Pup breakfast and the misters were ready for a giant slide ride. Then it was off to the fire tower where O and I climbed to the top. Looking down we could see Daddy and Lucius. Oliver took a sky ride with Daddy later on while Lucius and I walked to meet them. More pronto pups for all and it was time to meet up with some friends to see the parade. Just before leaving we walked thru the little farm hands.

We walked a lot, I actually wore my pedometer to track just how many steps we took all day. Oliver walked pretty much all 8,529 steps. By the time we reached home it was 5pm and since the boys had eaten all day long we put them straight to bed. They were totally worn out and slept the whole night long.
