a birthday boat ride

My choice for birthday activity was to take the boys on a paddle boat ride. On the drive down we stopped to get a treat- Jamba Juice smoothies.
We rented the boat for a half an hour. We peddled through a channel to the far end of the lake and sat under the shade of a old willow tree. As we were sitting there a white herron flew down and landed right by our boat.
I would have to say that it was a very lovely birthday. I couldn't ask for much more than spending the day with my favorite three misters.

Solid food and Birthday cake
I hate to overwhelm you with videos but quite frankly some moments are captured with motion film, rather than merely still life.
The other day I fed Lucius more solid foods, a bit of sweet potato. He was making all kinds of funny faces. And then daddy took the spoon, gave him one bite (so I could take a video) ... and he started coughing to get the food out of his mouth. Why do you boys love giving daddy so many heart stopping moments. Lucius totally wasn't doing that for me.
This afternoon my little misters and I drove over to Auntie Em's house. Mormor, Morfar, Auntie Mick, Casen and Brianna all were there. I wanted to make a cake so that Oliver could blow out birthday candles. I'm not totally traditional, if you hadn't noticed with our half birthday celebration thing. But who am I to not give my boy the pleasure of blowing out his 2 1/2 candles and enjoying a super yummy german chocolate cake.
He enjoyed spitting/ blowing out the candle so much I re-lit the candle three or four times. We sang happy birthday a few times because he asked us too. I love seeing my baby smiling. He was so excited he couldn't quite get out "I blow out fire". Thanks Auntie Em for letting us celebrate last minute at your house!

FIREWORKS-July 4th (evening)
There was a lot of traffic leaving the area, so we walked back to Melanie's house and watched cousin Kylee set off a few smaller fire crackers. As we were pulling away at eleven o'clock in the evening, Oliver yelled out the window "Goodbye People!". Thank you so much Great Aunt Melanie for inviting us down and spending a late night with us.
(I found the "fireworks" setting on my camera and took all these lovely photos myself. Too bad I only get to use it once a year, I'll probably forget it's there.)
Here's the Big Finiale
our July 4th (daytime)
Oliver learned & played a NEW game (Memory). He was actually really good at finding matches, taking turns and following the rules. I'm impressed, plus excited because I love playing games- especially Memory.
Read a NEW book "Harold and the Purple Crayon"
We lived a little dangerously and shot a few crackers
(of the animal variety) & toys into our mouths

Lucius practiced sitting up, he's not quite there yet, then decided to take a nap.
After a fun indoor/ outdoor activity filled day, Oliver and I headed over to Great Aunt Melanie's house. Oliver found a few pennies on Melanie's floor. He asked permission to keep them and was told "well, if you dig in the couch maybe you'll find more". No need to tell this two year old twice where you're pennies are hiding- he went straight to the couch, tore off the cushions and found three more pennies. A little story time and it was off to a sweaty evening of slumber before being woke up to see the FIREWORKS.
To be continued...

We can play together?!
I put Lucius into the "high chair" we have to feed him his first solid foods. He tasted homemade mashed sweet pea mush, which he seemed to enjoy. Oliver REALLY wanted to feed him with the baby spoon. I let him do it just once because he super wanted to help.
After the short attempt at solids, I was cleaning up and Oliver was chatting with Lucius saying "Its okay Lucius, you want play with me. You're sitting my chair. Play with me Lucius." It was so sweet, I left Lucius in the chair, grabbed a couple cars and enjoyed their playtime.
I think Oliver finally figured out that Lucius could be a really fun playmate.
