Tinkering...

It's been awhile since the boys used the tinkering stuff but every once in a while they get really into it. Towards the end of summer they went crazy building a ton of "boats". Then one day, they wanted to take a bath or go swimming to see if they float. SO I did the easiest things at the time... I filled up a giant container and told them they could test them in there.

All the boats float except one, which we decided was a submarine.

STEAM pumpkin geo boards...

Just before Halloween we went to STEAM and the boys built pumpkin geo-boards. They thought it was super awesome. They poked small nails into their pumpkins and used colorful rubber bands to make faces or shapes to decorate said pumpkin. I think they turned out really awesome.

STEAM at the Library...

A couple Wednesday ago we attended STEAM because I had heard it was going to be an egg drop. The boys weren't exactly sure what that meant but anything involving the words "egg" and "drop" sounded fun to them. They started by drawing a plan of how they would build their egg drop container (they had been shown a video showing how this was going to work first).

Then they started building a container that would keep their eggs from cracking when they tossed them from the second floor of the library.

I don't even think anyone really cared that all but one child's egg broke. They all had a blast tossing stuff from the balcony of the library. Oliver and Lucius' eggs both broke but they were super happy to have been a part of this challenge and continue to talk about how they'd love to do it again.

STEAM at the Library...

We've been attending the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) events every Wednesday hosted by our favorite Librarians at the Library. They've been really fun and entertaining for the boys. Oliver's best friend's family has been joining us for the last four weeks as well.

We've made "Gagets and Gizmos" with an engineer, Played with potions with a Scientist, made a stop motion animation video with a Technology specialist and went on a scavenger hunt with the Librarians.

Oliver and his friend made this Stop Motion Animation video. He loved that class the most so far and has asked for the app they used so he can make more movies. I bought him the full version because he really gets excited and focused on it. The morning he had it, he spent the whole two hours between when he woke up till school, taking still photos to edit together into a video. He took about 490 photos in those hours. Crazy. When he's done with his movie- I'll try to share it.
