Chess tournament...

Lucius and three of his second grade friends went to the SCA statewide grade level tournament on Feb 17th to see if they could take home the team trophy again this year. Unfortunately there was some really good chess players that they played against and they didn't earn enough points to win.

I did however bribe Lucius to notate one of his games at the chess tournament. He’s never wanted to take notation before because “it takes too long”. He took notes till the game was put on a timer. He didn’t win any awards or trophies at the tournament (he won 2 out of five games) but I’m so proud of his attitude and his willingness to try! In the end, after processing big feels about his defeat on the car ride home, he said “at least I learned some new things, had fun AND I notated my first tournament game”

 
In between games they usually play beyblades or get sucked into tablet time. This is Lucius and his best buddy snuggled up in a chair watching each other play a football game.
