Last Wednesday was National Walk or Bike to School Day. The boys were pretty excited about it, especially since I told them I found some friends to join us this year. I went around the neighborhjod and introduced myself to two new families who I knew went to the same school (totally not my strong suit but I'm try to get out of my comfort zone). We had three other parents and 7 other kids who wanted to join us. One of our friends had a bike that was too small and he and his mom only made it a block before having to turn around (but they did come and try). In total it was 3 adults and 8 kids who made it the whole trip (including us). My own two showed up to school: one in tears from being past on the last uphill), the second as angry as angry can be. I'll let you figure out which was which. I'm hoping everyone else enjoyed the ride!!
When our first friends were dropped off they all started riding around on our block. They told me they had to "get their energy out". I told them they should probably save their energy for the bike ride. Crazy kids.
Oliver had a melt down half way when we had to cross a couple busy streets. He wasn't in the lead anymore and almost ran off. We managed to rejoin the group but he screamed at the kids in front of him pretty much the rest of the way to school. Such a bummer. At least we all made it to school safe and sound without any physical injures, so I will consider it a success.
