Dear Family and friends,
This past week Oliver has made us aware (yet again) of his love for all things pink. This time he has asked to wear dresses and skirts. After much thought and consideration, we have decided to grant his request. I have search out all the pink items in both the girls and boys sections of the store. Most of his clothing is fairly gender neutral as far as the style goes. He now owns a couple skirts that look like kilts and as of today has two new dresses. For the time being (at least this week) he will be wearing the dresses at home only, where he can feel free to express himself as he needs.
He is aware that this is not the 'normal' his parents grew up with, but that we love him very much (no matter what). He has been made aware that we, as his parents, are adjusting our idea of 'normal' because of our love for him, but not everyone will be as accepting. If you feel uncomfortable with it, you have every right to be.
All we ask from you is that if you have comments or concerns you approach us with them and not him. If you'd like words for this sort of thing to help better understand his wishes, the terms are "gender fluid" "gender creative" or "gender non-conforming". He does not appear to be a transgender child (someone who believes they were born into the wrong gender's body). Even if he were we would continue to love him, respect his wishes and research how best to support him.
Thank you
Margaret and Jerimy
