Moving to Rome...

Today we packed and packed, and then waited to return the keys to our lovely Italian home away from home here in Florence. It was a rainy day this morning, so instead of walking we took a taxi to the train station. I grabbed a quick McDonald's lunch for everyone to eat on the go. We caught the 11:20am rapid train to Rome for our last three days in Italy.

We walked from the Termini train station about a mile to our new Roman apartment. It felt a lot longer than a mile dragging all our suitcases behind us. I'm glad our luggage had wheels but sidewalks in Rome are not all that conducive to small wheels. We made it to our new place about 2pm and checked in after a short wait.

Once in the apartment, the boys were a bit wild and crazy. We decided to go out for a walk around Rome. Heading to the nearest metro station we managed to follow a part of the old city wall which was pretty cool to see. The Little Misters loved riding the Metro to the Spanish stairs station.

We walked about a block from the Spagna Station, turned the corner and saw the spanish stairs. It was pretty crowded but the boys happily ran up the stairs racing Daddy.

Then we walked on, heading toward the Trevi Fountain. Daddy made sure to give each of us a coin to throw into the Fountain once we got there.

After making our wishes to come back to Rome one day, we walked on in the direction of the Pantheon. Knowing we all have a love to explore old building and churches, we went inside to see it. It had been raining and the middle was indeed wet with rain from the hole in the ceiling.

Next Roman site to see, the Piazza Navona with even more fountains (a real favorite of the boys). We briefly walked through, but we were all starting to get hungry for dinner. So we walked on in search of a good meal.

Eventually we stumbled upon a tiny little shop that made sandwiches. Their signs out front made the decision for me, we had to try this place. We grabbed our meal and took it down the block to the Piazza del Popolo for a night time picnic in the park. We sat under the stars and watched people going past.

A fantastic first day in Rome and wonderful time spent seeing the sites. There was a metro station nearby which we took back toward the apartment and then walked the rest of the way home.

Goodness! I realize how behind I've fallen. But it's so fun to see the last pictures of your trip. Rome is one of my favorite cities (it's where I met Bryce). I look forward to reading more about what you have been up to more recently in the next few days and weeks. It was so fun to follow your adventures in Italy!
